Important notes

Disclaimer

Please read this page before relying on anything we publish.

1. Informational only

Everything published on Piscine — including recipes, techniques, equipment notes, and ingredient guides — is provided for general informational and educational purposes only. It reflects our experience cooking in a home kitchen and our editorial judgment. It is not professional advice of any kind.

2. No medical, nutritional, or dietary advice

We are cooks and editors, not licensed medical, nutritional, or dietary professionals. Nothing on Piscine is intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any medical condition, and nothing on the Site should be relied on as a substitute for advice from a qualified healthcare provider, registered dietitian, or other licensed professional. If you have specific dietary needs or health concerns, please speak with a professional who knows your situation.

3. Allergens

Many recipes contain common food allergens — including wheat, dairy, eggs, soy, peanuts, tree nuts, fish, shellfish, and sesame — sometimes without explicit warning in the recipe text. We do our best to be clear, but ingredient formulations change and substitutions can introduce new allergens. If you cook for someone with a food allergy, please read every ingredient label carefully and use your own judgment.

4. Food safety is your responsibility

Cooking involves heat, sharp tools, and raw ingredients. You are responsible for cooking in a safe environment and for following good food-safety practices in your kitchen — washing hands and surfaces, separating raw and cooked foods, cooking to safe internal temperatures, and refrigerating leftovers promptly. The U.S. Department of Agriculture and the FDA publish helpful guidance for home cooks; we encourage you to consult them.

5. Cooking times and temperatures are approximate

Stoves, ovens, pans, and ingredients vary. Cooking times listed in our recipes are the times that worked in our test kitchen, with the equipment we describe. Treat them as a guide, not a guarantee. Use a thermometer when food safety depends on internal temperature.

6. Ingredient sourcing and labels

When we describe specific brands or products, we are sharing what we used in our test kitchen — not making any guarantee about that product’s suitability for you. Labels, formulations, and availability change. Always check the label, especially when allergens or dietary restrictions matter.

7. Equipment notes are not endorsements

Our equipment guides describe categories of tools and what to look for in them. Specific products mentioned are examples from our own kitchen, not paid endorsements. We do not currently participate in affiliate programs. See our Editorial Policy for more.

8. External links

We may link to third-party websites for context or further reading. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content. Following a link is at your own discretion.

9. No guarantees of results

We test our recipes carefully, but we cannot guarantee specific results in your kitchen. Skill, equipment, ingredient quality, altitude, humidity, and many other factors all play a role. If a recipe doesn’t turn out as expected, please write to us — we read every message and we try to revise our work when patterns emerge.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Piscine and its editors, writers, and contributors are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or other damages arising out of your use of the Site or its content. By using the Site, you accept full responsibility for the decisions you make in your own kitchen.
