This Privacy Policy explains how Piscine (“we,” “us,” or “the site”) collects, uses, and protects information when you visit https://www.piscine.us (the “Site”). We try to collect as little as we need.
1. Information we collect
We collect two kinds of information:
- Information you give us directly. If you subscribe to our newsletter, contact us through the contact form, or write to one of our email addresses, you may give us your name, email address, and any other information you choose to include in your message.
- Information collected automatically. When you visit the Site, our server and analytics tools may automatically receive standard log information — your IP address, browser type, device type, the pages you visit, the time of your visit, and the page you came from. We use this information in aggregate to understand how the Site is used and to keep it working properly.
2. How we use information
We use the information we collect to:
- Operate, maintain, and improve the Site;
- Send you the newsletter you subscribed to, and respond to messages you send us;
- Understand which articles and recipes are read, and how to make the site faster and more accessible;
- Protect against fraud, abuse, and security incidents;
- Comply with applicable laws.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your email address with third parties for marketing.
3. Cookies and analytics
The Site uses a small number of cookies and similar technologies. Some are strictly necessary for the Site to function (for example, remembering your cookie-consent choice). Others are optional and used only for privacy-respecting analytics.
You can manage cookies through your browser settings and through our cookie banner. See our Cookie Policy for the full list and details.
4. Third-party services
We rely on a small number of third-party services to operate the Site. These currently include our web host, our email-delivery provider for the newsletter, and a privacy-respecting analytics service. Each of these providers has its own privacy practices. We choose providers that publish clear privacy terms and that store data in jurisdictions with strong data-protection laws.
We may also embed external resources (such as fonts or images). Loading these resources may involve a request from your browser to a third party. We try to keep these to a minimum.
5. How we keep information
We keep personal information only for as long as we have a reason to. Newsletter subscribers’ email addresses are kept until you unsubscribe. Messages sent through the contact form are kept for up to two years and then deleted. Server logs are kept for a maximum of 30 days.
6. Security
We take reasonable steps to protect the information you give us. The Site is served over HTTPS. We restrict access to personal information to the small team that needs it to operate the Site. No method of transmission over the internet is fully secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work to make it unlikely that your information is exposed.
7. Children
Piscine is intended for a general adult audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at privacy@piscine.us and we will delete it.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have certain rights regarding your personal information, including:
- The right to access the personal information we hold about you;
- The right to correct inaccurate information;
- The right to ask us to delete your information;
- The right to object to certain uses of your information;
- The right to withdraw consent at any time.
If you live in California, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction with applicable privacy laws, additional rights may apply. To exercise any of these rights, write to privacy@piscine.us. We will respond within 30 days.
9. Information for California residents
California residents have specific rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act and the California Privacy Rights Act. In the last twelve months, we have not sold or shared personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. We collect the categories of information described in Section 1 above for the purposes described in Section 2. You may request access to or deletion of your information at privacy@piscine.us.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “last updated” date at the top of the page and, for material changes, post a notice on the Site for at least 30 days.
